Aspartame

Aspartame was approved to be added to dry foods, in 1981. For over eight years the FDA refused to approve aspartame because of study results of seizures and brain tumors found in lab animals. FDA continued to refuse it until President Ronald Regan took office. He fired the FDA Commissioner who wouldn't approve it and appointed Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes.

Even after Dr. Hayes was appointed, disapproval was so great that a Board of Inquiry was set up. Although they agreed "Do not approve aspartame", Dr. Hayes went against their wishes and overruled his own Board of Inquiry. On his way up the corporate ladder, Dr. Hayes shortly left for a position with G.D. Searle's Public Relations firm, after the approval of aspartame to be used in carbonated beverages. On June 27, 1996 the FDA removed all restrictions from aspartame allowing it to be used in everything, including all heated and baked goods.

Aspartame is a drug that causes slow, silent damage to those fortunate to not react immediately. Some people can react immediately, or it could take 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, or 40 years to develop changes in health. The Barcelona Report, conducted by the staff of the biology dept of the University of Barcelona, proves that we have reason to be concerned. The results show that aspartame (labeled with carbon 14 isotope) was transformed into formaldehyde in a study with rats. The formaldehyde then binds with protein and to the tissue structures in the rats. The liver has little effect on the formaldehyde and the formation binds to tissues. Formaldehyde is also a known carcinogen, and causes retinol damage, interferes with DNA replication, and causes birth defects.

Methanol (otherwise known as Wood alcohol)is another component of aspartame, approximately 10% of aspartame is made up of methanol. Methanol is a deadly poison that caused "skid row" alcoholics to end up blind or dead when they ingested it. Methanol is gradually released into the small intestines when it encounters the enzyme chymotrypsin. 'Free methanol' is created from aspartame when it is heated to 86F. Free methanol is absorbed much faster in the body. For example, Jello containing aspartame, is heated up and the methanol becomes a 'free methanol'. When the Jello is ingested, it is absorbed at a considerably faster rate than if it was not heated.

Methanol is then broken down into formaldehyde and it then converts to formic acid by the body. Formaldehyde is a deadly neurotoxin (toxic to the nervous system). An EPA assessment proves that Methanol "is considered a cumulative poison due to the low rate of excretion once it is absorbed. In the body, methanol is oxidized to formaldehyde and formic acid; both of these metabolites are toxic." Toxic formic acid is used to strip epoxy and urethane coatings. Imagine what it can do to your soft tissues.

Phenylalanine and asparic acid (90% of aspartame) are amino acids, accompanied by other amino acids in the body (there are 20) they become neurotoxic. Finally, the phenylalanine breaks down into a brain tumor agent known as DKP.

The recommended limit of consumption is 7.8 mg/day. A 1 litre bottle of pop (approx. 1 quart) contains about 56 mg of methanol. People who use a lot of aspartame products can consume as much as 250 mg of methanol a day, over 32 times the EPA limit.

People who are eating a 'healthy low, calorie diet' often are found to be the biggest consumers of aspartame products. These people are duped into thinking they are making a health conscience decision, by choosing say a diet soda, over a fattening sugar filled pop.

Individuals with diabetes are the sorriest statistic of them all. They substitute aspartame in their diets, to protect themselves by this choice. What they don't realize is that they are just substituting one problem for many others. Stay safe and avoid all products containing artificial sweeteners.

[THE BIGGEST HEALTH TIP IS HERE! ]“
It amazes me that most people’s lives seem to be getting dressed in the clothes that they buy for work, driving through morning traffic in a car they are still paying for in order to get to the job they need so they can pay for the clothes, pay for the car and pay for the home they leave empty all day in order to afford to live in it”… REALLY THINK ABOUT IT!
